Equine Guided Team Building and Corporate Development

It was once said by Winston Churchill:

"There is nothing so good for the inside of a man, than the outside of a horse."

We, here at Greenhorn Ranch, know that this is the truth. Our horses are our team mates in living, playing and working. They sense our moods and our feelings and provide us instantaneous feedback to help us understand how others may perceive us. With this information, we can become more effective communicators, leaders and gain valuable insights that make us more effective and help us reach our goals. We want to share these opportunities with our guests and as such have sought training and education with which to craft programs geared toward individuals, groups, families and organizations.

In The Know...Truckee California Writes About Greenhorn Ranch

http://www.intheknowtruckee.com/index.php/lisa-kaufman-kelly/
In the Spring of 2007, Dr. Lisa Kaufman Kelly and her husband Mike left their corporate jobs, and made their way west to Greenhorn Creek Guest Ranch in Quincy, CA. Lisa now manages the hospitality side of the business at Greenhorn Creek Guest Ranch, while her husband manages the Ranch operations. So how does a PhD from Purdue University wind up running a guest ranch? As they say, “to make a long story short”….

It started in the 70’s when Lisa’s family, in a search for the perfect family vacation, found Greenhorn Ranch in Sunset magazine. With horseback riding, REAL cowboys, singing around a bonfire, log rolling in the pond, and wild western dances, the family found an ideal destination. Lisa’s parent’s bought 7 parcels of land around the Ranch, built a log cabin, and returned with the family to Greenhorn Ranch at every opportunity.

After going off to college, graduate school, and starting a family of her own, Lisa ended up as Dr. Kelly, director of a private business college in Reno, NV. Seldom taking family vacations and finding her family tethered together by technology, bound to the telephone, and glued to monitors in work and play, Lisa decided it was time to take her family to Greenhorn Ranch. After a horseback ride, cookout, and an overnighter, the family put money down on 6 amazing acres adjacent to Greenhorn Ranch and bought a trailer. Lisa was back home and it felt good!

Greenhorn Creek Guest Ranch is a short drive from Truckee, CA. Horseback riding is the main activity at Greenhorn, while the summer is packed full of activities like swimming, frog racing, fishing, and a real rodeo where you, the guest’s, are the featured attraction! Spring and fall offer the perfect setting for meetings and retreats, family reunions and special events. Greenhorn Ranch has plenty of modern amenities, no “roughing it” required! For more information go to www.greenhornranch.com or call 1-800-33-HOWDY

Victory Garden at Greenhorn Ranch

What a WONDERFUL Mother's Day it was for Greenhorn Creek Guest Ranch. We planted a VICTORY GARDEN on the Ranch, enjoyed the company of 100 lunch guests and had a great time! If you were not able to make it, we did miss you and if you were here to share in the festivities, your hard work in the garden was greatly appreciated!

Partnership Opportunities!

Greetings from Ralph & Trish Wilburn,

Hard to believe it’s almost spring again. The creek is flowing, there’s still snow on the ground and the sun is shining! We’re looking forward to another great summer at the Ranch and wanted to update you, our extended Ranch family, on our plans to make your vacation the best ever and to make darned sure that you take home a saddlebag full of memories to last a lifetime!

The Guest Ranch will be open May, June, July & August for horseback riding, cookouts, frog racing and all our fantastic western activities! The activity schedule is posted on our website as are all our specials and discounts.

This year, we are "dog friendly". We've always had our Ranch dogs about - Josie, Rooster, and Soche, but this year, we're inviting you to bring your best friends too! Check out our dog_friendly details. In addition to that, we have a great spring_special and heck, we're even riding on Fridays now!

Following the last week in August, we are concluding the Guest Ranch operation for 2009 and opening up the Ranch, for a fall/winter lease, to groups and programs so others can enjoy the splendor of the High Sierra and the western way of life s we have enjoyed so much. If you are interested in leasing the Ranch for your business or know of an organization that may be, please call us directly! Other partnership opportunities include joining our investment team to become a share holder.

So, saddle up partner, it’s time to ride at Greenhorn Creek Guest Ranch!

Happy Trails, Ralph & Trish

Our Vacationing Herd

A really kind friend checked on our herd one day and sent these really cool photos.  Our herd spends winter in greener pastures...literally!  In Quincy, just 1,000 ft. lower in elevation than the Ranch, the snow is a bit lighter, the grasses taller and the food abundant!  Enjoy!

Greenhorn Hosts Feather River College Rodeo Reunion

This weekend was the 5th annual FRC Rodeo Team Reunion. We were lucky enough to be selected to be the PERMANENT site of the FRC Rodeo Reunion. It was a blast! Thanks to Danny Leonhardt, it was a hoot'n holler'in good time. We sang, played left, right, center with Joanne and Ken and Ralph & Rob stayed up till dawn with the guys. Ellie shared his glory days and we were pretty much riveted to our chairs.

Though we started on Friday night, it ran to Sunday morning. Sunday was really exciting with ice fishing and a weenie roast on the frozen pond. The guys played ice hockey with beer cans and everyone had a dunk in the frozen water...no better way to stay awake...wide awake! The fish were not bitin' so we ordered pizza! YEEHAW! Can't wait 'till next year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

What a blast...no literally, we had a blast...after blast...after blast. Ralph and the gang shot the cannon off in the traditional Greenhorn way starting around 5 p.m., a few times during dinner at 8:00 p.m. then again before, during and after midnight! No one can say that they DIDN'T hear Greenhorn welcoming in the New Year! We all had a blast. The DJ played great tunes, the dance floor was never bare.
